I entered Albany Medical Center's cardiac unit (unit #C8) through the emergency room last week; I subsequently underwent the TAVR (transaortic valve replacement) surgery. I experienced heart block as a post-surgical complication (through no-one's fault; heart block is a very common complication, especially among those who, like me, have had previous cardiac surgeries) and subsequently underwent first a temporary and then a permanent pacemaker implant surgery.Throughout my frightening experience, I was totally "blown away" by the level of care I received. The entire staff...the ER staff, the surgical teams, the nurses and staff on unit C8 and in the cardiac ICU and pre/post surgical units, the personnel who delivered food trays and cleaned my room, everybody...was so caring and attentive, both to my medical needs and to the emotional roller coaster that I went through. I know that this staff, like virtually all medical staffs, went through h*ll during the pandemic that is just starting to lose its fierce grip on hospital systems, yet they still treated me with total expertise and compassion. Truly, I could not have received better care if I were their family member.I have had complex, lifelong medical concerns and have been hospitalized multiple times, including three times at Albany Med. Each and every time, the level of care I received was outstanding. Albany Med is among the finest of hospitals and I am deeply grateful for all that they have done for me. I am so very blessed and reassured that Albany Med will be there for my future medical needs.
