Ketamine and the staff at New Hope saved my son's life. Literally. After the very first treatment my son was transformed. Like someone turned on a light switch, my son returned to living life. After suffering through years of depression my son had given up on life. He left his job, threw away his possessions, isolated himself from all friends and family and decided being dead was his only choice for freedom from the darkness. In just 14 months there were six suicide attempts, two hospitalizations in psychiatric wards, four different psychiatrists with four different mental illness diagnosis, three therapists and at least twelve medications. Every hospitalization and every new psychiatrist told him that he just needed to find his desire to live and taking a pill and behavior modification with a therapist would help him do that. The problem with that was not one single prescription made any difference at all, in fact some made him more suicidal. My son was treatment resistant and not one psychiatrist was willing to think outside the "happy pill" box. The psychiatric community was in fact justifying suicide in my son's mind. Every failed attempt at treatment seemed to justify to him that he was hopeless, broken, couldn't be fixed and better off dead. It was heartbreaking to witness. He had a successful career, managed his life on his own, no trauma or situation preceded this journey into darkness and no pill was ever going to "fix" him. New Hope proved that. Our first contact with New Hope was when my daughter reached out from Colorado to the first point of contact at the clinic. Elena is truly amazing, she provided first and foremost comfort and kindness, then information and most of all hope. Not just "New Hope" but "any" hope to this family that had lost all hope. Elena is the ultimate compassionate professional and that is exactly what this mom needed after 14 months of being slowly traumatized by the medical community who all missed a chemical imbalance in a blood test that Dr. A saw the very first day we met with him, the same blood test that was done in the hospital and viewed by every medical provider that my son saw. Dr. A knew immediately. Dr. A is the most compassionate medical provider I have ever encountered. He speaks to you not over you, he explains everything until you understand it and has more experience than I have ever encountered. He is kind and makes a real human connection with his patients. He doesn't just oversee ketamine treatment, he treats the whole being. Dr. A, Elena, Dr. M, Harley, Dr. Jacob and the entire staff at New Hope are like nothing we encountered anywhere else. They are truly unicorns and without them my son would have eventually found a way to end his life. Every step of the way we felt we were being lifted up by these people. We were a team and they were each invested in my son's treatment. There are no adequate words to describe how that feels when you have lost confidence in the medical community. After a single treatment I saw life in his eyes, his smile returned and he was not suicidal. He has followed through with the additional treatments to "seal the deal" but he has been living life again in happiness and hope since his very first ketamine treatment. Treatment here is first class, the staff are wonderful. I have been given such great care. The ketamine treatment for depression and chronic pain has been more help than one of my back surgeries. Another side effect was such a great reduction in migraine headaches after the first treatment I was headache free for over a month.
